Defence intelligence students visit Entebbe Airport to study border security operations

A delegation from the School of Defence Intelligence and Security has visited Entebbe International Airport as part of a practical learning programme aimed at enhancing their understanding of aviation security and border management.

The delegation, comprising representatives from six security agencies, toured the country’s main international gateway on Monday, July 27, 2026, to gain first-hand insight into the security dynamics at the airport and bridge the gap between classroom instruction and operational practice.

The team was received by Major Swalik Kakaire Magezi, representing the Aviation Security Manager at the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA).

Speaking during the visit, the Commandant of the School of Defence Intelligence and Security, Col. Ezra Kukundakwe, thanked UCAA for hosting the delegation and providing an opportunity for students to appreciate the practical aspects of airport security management.

During the engagement, Maj. Kakaire delivered a comprehensive presentation covering geopolitical factors influencing border security, emerging aviation security threats, transnational crimes, security zoning at Entebbe International Airport, the role of intelligence in securing national borders, inter-agency coordination mechanisms, and recommended practices in border security management.

The participants also toured key sections of the airport under the guidance of officers from the Aviation Security and Public Affairs departments, enabling them to observe airport security operations and coordination mechanisms in action.

The visit forms part of the School’s practical training programme designed to equip intelligence and security officers with operational knowledge and strengthen inter-agency collaboration in safeguarding Uganda’s borders and critical infrastructure.
