Hereditary Chief of Bukono chiefdom opens Lukiiko in Namutumba district

The Hereditary Chief of Bukono Chiefdom in Namutumba District, His Royal Highness Nkono Godfrey Mutyaba, has officially opened the Bukono Lukiiko with the aim of strengthening service delivery to his subjects.

Presiding over the opening ceremony held at the Ivukula Town Council Headquarters grounds in Bukono Constituency, HRH Nkono urged members of the Bukono Lukiiko, Ministers, and all his subjects to embrace unity and actively participate in programs initiated to transform their livelihoods.

Nkono underscored his cocoa-growing initiative in Bukono, under which most households have received cocoa seedlings. He also referenced government programs such as the Parish Development Model. He emphasized that all these interventions are designed to eradicate poverty in homes.

In addition to the distribution of cocoa seedlings, HRH Nkono disclosed that he and the Minister for General Duties, Owek. Michael Mwandha, through Mwamic General Enterprises, have secured organic fertilizers for the subjects.

“This fertilizer can be applied to any crop to ensure better yields, Mwamic general enterprises is owned by this Minister of General duties” HRH Nkono told his subjects.

The Chief further highlighted other ongoing programs in the chiefdom and urged his subjects to continue their implementation.

These programs include tree planting to preserve the environment, intensified food crop production to ensure food security, and the provision of bursaries by the Kingdom to nurture more elites and reduce teenage pregnancies in the area.

“I call upon all leaders at the district level in their respective councils, and at the lower local councils, to ensure that they support our programs,” he added.

“And finally, I thank my daughter and sister, Hon. Princess Persis Namuganza, for her unwavering support toward the chiefdom. She supports all our programs.”

The function was attended by a large number of Nkono’s subjects, Ministers, Advisors, and other stakeholders.

Hon. Princess Persis Namuganza, State Minister for Housing and also Member of Parliament for Bukono Constituency, was represented by her Personal Assistant, Florence Namukose, who commended HRH for championing development in the chiefdom. She called upon all Bakono to embrace unity and prioritize development.

“Namuganza is the only Minister from this district and one of the few Ministers selected from Busoga. Therefore, people of Bukono, we must seize this opportunity to attract more development to our area,” Florence stated, noting the significance of having their MP as a Minister.

Owek. Walyomo Isabirye Siliveriyo, the Katikiro of Bukono Chiefdom, stated that they are exerting considerable effort to recover chiefdom land that has been encroached upon by individuals.

He noted that much of the encroached land was designated for the establishment of schools and health facilities for Nkono’s subjects.

“We are currently proposing that our Ministers attend local government council sessions as observers and ensure that this matter is followed up by reminding the relevant leaders,” the Katikiro said.

Mukisa David Kalulu Mulondo, the LC5 Chairperson of Namutumba District, urged residents to adhere to the guidelines issued by the Electoral Commission and to maintain peace during the elections as they vote for their LC1 Chairpersons on 28th July this month.

Kabakubya Eridadi, representing the Clan Heads in Bukono, rallied all Clan Heads to ensure the immediate registration of their clans.

“Beyond DNA, there is a traditional way of determining paternity. When a child is born, a woman traditionally presents ‘Akalera’ to the father of the child. However, I urge the young generation to ensure that children are given to the right fathers to avoid future consequences,” he said.
