Musenero calls for skills alignment with industry as AI reshapes future of work
Musenero noted that the world of work is undergoing rapid transformation due to technological disruption and the rise of artificial intelligence.
The Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr. Monica Musenero has called for stronger collaboration between Uganda’s education sector and industry as the country prepares its workforce for a rapidly changing global economy driven by technology and artificial intelligence.
Speaking alongside officials from the Ministry of Education and Sports during a press conference at Uganda Media Centre in Kampala on Monday, the minister emphasized the importance of career guidance, skills development and entrepreneurship in equipping young people with competencies that match the needs of modern industries.
Musenero acknowledged the role played by the education ministry and other partners in advancing initiatives that help learners understand emerging career paths and develop practical skills that are relevant to the labour market.
She also invited Ugandans to participate in this year’s National Career Guidance Day scheduled for March 20, 2026 at the Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.
The event will be presided over by Yoweri Museveni as the chief guest, accompanied by the First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Museveni.
Musenero noted that the world of work is undergoing rapid transformation due to technological disruption and the rise of artificial intelligence.
“The disruption is real. Jobs are being lost and we still have jobs that should have been abolished a long time ago. Industrial revolutions are unapologetic,” she said while addressing the media ahead of the 7th National Career Guidance Day.
The 2026 event will be held under the theme “The Future of Work – Surviving in the AI Era,” highlighting the urgent need for learners, educators and policymakers to adapt education systems to emerging technological realities.
The annual National Career Guidance Day provides a platform for students, teachers, parents and industry leaders to explore opportunities in the evolving labour market while promoting innovation, skills development and entrepreneurship among Uganda’s youth.
