Parliament questions quality of scientists graduating at understaffed Busitema University
Busitema University secretary, Abert Matsiko, revealed that the six campuses of the University are supposed to receive a capital budget of Shs9.6 bn but they have been receiving only Shs2.3bn annually leaving a shortfall of 78%.
Members of Parliament (MPs) are wondering if Busitema University is able to chun out quality students with an academic staffing level of only 29%.
The worry by the MPs’ was expressed when the Busitema University Management appeared before the PAC Central Committee over concerns in the Auditor General’s Report.
And in self-defence, University Secretary Busitema University Abert Matsiko said the University is underfunded.

Busitema University is a Public University located, in the eastern region of Uganda at Busitem, Busia district. Other campuses are at Nagongera, Namasagali, Arapai, Mbale, Pallisa and Kaliro.
The university’s study programs focus on Engineering, Science Education, Health Sciences, Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences, Agriculture and Animal Sciences, Management Sciences and Vocational Education.
