Public  sector office engages Masaka City officials on tax compliance and systems support

During the visit, the PSO team met the Acting Town Clerk, Sebadduka Authman, and Deputy City Clerk, Baingana Alex, where discussions focused on key tax requirements and related compliance issues.

The Public Sector Office (PSO) has engaged officials of Masaka City, Nyendo Mukungwe City Division, on tax compliance matters as part of efforts to strengthen revenue management and ensure adherence to tax obligations.

During the visit, the PSO team met the Acting Town Clerk, Sebadduka Authman, and Deputy City Clerk, Baingana Alex, where discussions focused on key tax requirements and related compliance issues.

Marion Lubowa, Supervisor Compliance and Enforcement at PSO, guided the officials on the requirements for Value Added Tax (VAT) registration and highlighted recent tax amendments affecting public sector entities.

Lubowa encouraged the officials to utilise the waiver of interest and penalties available upon payment of qualifying principal tax, noting that the initiative provides an opportunity to reduce outstanding tax liabilities while promoting compliance.

She further advised officials to regularly update their Tax Identification Number (TIN) details whenever there are changes in circumstances, especially in cases where registered contact persons have passed away, retired, or resigned, to ensure taxpayer records remain accurate and up to date.

The PSO team also supported the district team in resolving an error within the Integrated Financial Management System (IFMS), enabling successful completion of their July payment processes.

The engagement is part of ongoing efforts by the Public Sector Office to improve tax compliance, strengthen government revenue administration, and support public institutions in meeting their statutory obligations.
