The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has held its first Diplomatic Briefing under the leadership of Foreign Affairs Minister Hon. Amb. Adonia Ayebare, bringing together members of the diplomatic community and senior government officials.
The event, held at Mestil Hotel in Kampala, attracted ambassadors, high commissioners, heads of international organisations, honorary consuls, and officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Addressing the gathering, Minister Ayebare outlined Uganda’s foreign policy priorities, stressing the need for strategic and results-oriented diplomacy that supports the country’s national development goals.
He highlighted the Government’s Tenfold Growth Strategy, which aims to expand Uganda’s economy to USD 500 billion by 2040 through increased investment, export diversification, value addition, technological advancement, reliable energy supply, and growth of the oil and gas sector, including completion of the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP).
Ayebare said the Ministry’s diplomatic engagements will be guided by the ATMS framework, focusing on Agro-based industrialisation, Tourism development, Mineral-based industrialisation, and Science, Technology and Innovation.
He noted that diplomacy will play a key role in attracting investment, promoting technology transfer, securing development financing, and expanding access to international markets.
The Minister also reaffirmed Uganda’s commitment to promoting regional peace and security, strengthening multilateral cooperation, advancing climate justice, and supporting reforms of the United Nations Security Council to guarantee fair African representation.
He further pledged Uganda’s continued respect for diplomatic law and the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, while promising regular engagement with the Diplomatic and Consular Corps.
Speaking on behalf of the Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, Rwanda’s High Commissioner to Uganda, H.E. Ambassador Joseph Rutabana welcomed the briefing as an important platform for enhancing mutual understanding, coordination, and cooperation between Uganda and the international community.
The engagement is expected to strengthen collaboration between Uganda and foreign missions as the country pursues its economic transformation and development objectives.
