Danish Superliga leaders AGF (Aarhus Gymnastikforening) have announced the signing of two promising Ugandan talents, James Bogere and Hamza Ssengooba, marking a significant milestone in their 15-year collaboration with Uganda’s El Cambio Academy.

The duo, who shone at the recent FIFA U17 World Cup, will join the club’s U19 squad this February 2026 for the winter preseason, with the aim of integrating into the team by spring.

A Strategic Partnership Bears Fruit

The partnership between AGF and El Cambio Academy has been nurturing young Ugandan talent for a decade and a half, combining AGF’s European football expertise with El Cambio’s grassroots development in Africa.

Both players will begin their AGF journey with rigorous training at the club’s Fredensvang training center, a hub for Denmark’s footballing elite.

Marc Søballe, AGF’s Talent Manager, highlighted the importance of the players’ prior exposure to Danish methods: “James and Hamza have maintained a strong relationship with both academies for years. El Cambio provides a high standard of coaching, while AGF supports with talent strategy. Frequent training stints in Fredensvang have allowed them to adapt to our style and culture.”

Bogere, a prolific finisher and skilled striker, captured attention during the U17 World Cup with two crucial goals against Canada and France. Søballe praised his versatility: “James combines exceptional speed with clinical finishing—qualities that will thrive in our system.”

Ssengooba, a defensive stalwart and captain of Uganda’s U17 national team, brings calm leadership and physicality to the backline. “Hamza’s maturity and strength make him a natural leader. His presence in defense is a significant asset,” added Søballe.

AGF’s Vision for Talent Development

AGF currently leads the Danish Superliga with 40 points, four ahead of second-placed Midtjylland. The club’s Director of Football, Carsten V. Jensen, emphasized the signing as a strategic move: “This partnership with El Cambio isn’t just about discovering talent—it’s about creating a clear pathway from Uganda to the Superliga. James and Hamza exemplify our commitment to long-term development and strengthening our youth pipeline, both domestically and internationally.”

The two young stars will train with AGF’s U19s ahead of the 2026/27 season, with ambitions to break into the senior team. Their arrival underscores the growing global reach of Danish football, particularly in Africa, where AGF’s investment in youth infrastructure continues to yield results.

What’s Next

As Bogere and Ssengooba prepare for their European journey, fans will watch closely to see if these young talents can replicate their U17 World Cup heroics in one of Europe’s most competitive youth leagues. Their success could further cement AGF’s reputation as a trailblazer in global football development.

For now, the Danish leader remains focused on maintaining its 14-point advantage in the Superliga while nurturing the next generation of stars—ones who may one day don the AGF senior jersey.
