At least 10 people have died and three others were injured in a road crash on the Iganga–Bugiri Highway early this morning. The accident occurred at Busowa in Bugiri District after a taxi UBN 817H, travelling from Busia to Iganga, reportedly lost control and crashed into a stationary trailer UA 647BA.

The crash happened at around 7:00 a.m. in Busowa Town Council. According to initial reports, the Toyota Hiace taxi was overtaking when the driver encountered an oncoming vehicle, forcing him to make a sudden decision.

Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety spokesperson SP Michael Kananura said preliminary findings indicate that the taxi driver attempted to overtake another vehicle but was met with an oncoming car.

“In an effort to avoid a head-on collision, the driver swerved to the left, lost control, and rammed into a stationary trailer,” SP Kananura said.

The taxi driver is among those who died in the Wednesday morning crash.

Police say investigations are underway to determine the full circumstances of the accident and to guide further action.
