Five charged over violent seizure of Madhvani Group land

All five pleaded not guilty. With investigations still ongoing, the trial magistrate remanded them until November 19, 2024.

Five suspects were arraigned before the Gomba Chief Magistrates Court by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit in collaboration with the Police CID.

The suspects, identified as Nuwahereza Allan Katakanya, Mudenyi Gerald, Nabimanya David, Ssenoga Abdu, and Kisenyi Harunah, faced charges of forcible entry, forcible detainer, destruction of growing plants, and conspiracy to commit a misdemeanor and a felony.

All five pleaded not guilty. With investigations still ongoing, the trial magistrate remanded them until November 19, 2024.

According to the prosecution, in September 2024, the accused, along with others still at large, allegedly seized over 600 acres of land in Musongole village, Mpenja sub-county, Gomba District.

Claiming to conduct a boundary reopening, they forcibly took control of the land, which belongs to Madhvani Group Limited, and allegedly destroyed tea plantations and more than 540 acres of natural forest in the process.
