The National Social Security Fund (NSSF), in partnership with MTN Uganda, Housing Finance Bank, and Vision Group, is setting its sights on an unprecedented target of raising UGX 21.5 billion to revolutionize public education across Uganda, with a particular focus on digital access.
This ambitious target will be at the centre of this year’s NSSF Kampala Hills Charity Run scheduled to take place on Sunday, October 12, 2025 at Kololo Independence Grounds. The Kampala Hills Charity Run has established itself as one of Uganda’s most impactful philanthropic events.
Over the past five years, the initiative has demonstrated a profound ability to translate community spirit into tangible educational improvements. In 2023 alone, approximately 8,000 participants laced up, collectively raising close to UGX 948 million. A similar amount was garnered in 2022 by over 7,000 runners.
These vital funds have already breathed new life into 25 public schools, directly impacting over 40,000 pupils daily. Contributions have facilitated critical renovations of classrooms, significantly improved sanitation facilities, and, importantly, introduced foundational digital access.
The positive ripple effects are clear: supported schools have seen enrolment increase by 12 percent, while dropouts have reduced by 10 percent, proving that every stride in the run contributes to a brighter future for young Ugandans.
For 2025, NSSF is taking its commitment a notch higher. The ambitious UGX 21.5 billion target is earmarked to support ten additional public schools nationwide. This year’s drive will not only ensure improved physical learning environments and essential sanitation but will also prioritize equipping learners with crucial digital tools.
For many children in these schools, this initiative will mark their very first interaction with a computer, opening up a world of knowledge and opportunity that is essential for navigating the future.
Beyond the personal fitness challenge, the Kampala Hills Run has become a significant cultural moment, fostering a sense of community and solidarity. It’s an event where families, friends, colleagues, and even strangers unite for a common, noble purpose.
