Police investigate the fatal shooting of boda boda rider during the National Cleaning Day exercise in Ndejje
According to police spokespersons, Kituuma Rusoke said the incident occurred at around 7:30am. when officers from Ndejje Police Station were deployed to provide security during the National Cleaning Day community exercise.
The Uganda Police Force has launched investigations into a shooting incident that left a boda boda rider dead on Saturday morning, 29 August 2026, at Ndejje Kanaaba in Makindye Ssabagabo
According to police spokespersons, Kituuma Rusoke said the incident occurred at around 7:30am. when officers from Ndejje Police Station were deployed to provide security during the National Cleaning Day community exercise.
Preliminary police findings indicate that the deceased, identified through a National Identification Card as 38-year-old Kizito Ronald Jjuuko, allegedly attempted to force his way through a secured area while riding his motorcycle.
Police said that in circumstances still under investigation, Police Constable Allan Okello, attached to Ndejje Police Station, allegedly shot the rider, resulting in his death.
The officer has since been arrested and is assisting with investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the discharge of his firearm.
The incident has sparked public concern, with some residents and social media users questioning the use of force during the cleaning exercise. Unverified reports circulating online claimed the confrontation followed a dispute over participation in the cleaning activity.
The Uganda Police Force has expressed condolences to the family, relatives, and friends of the deceased while emphasizing that officers must ensure any use of force is lawful, necessary, and proportionate.
Police have urged the public to remain calm as investigations continue to establish the facts behind the fatal shooting.
