Entebbe golf tournament tees up business and sport enhanced experience
The 2025 Stanbic Entebbe Open is set to redefine the golf tournament experience, offering a compelling blend of high-stakes sport and unparalleled networking opportunities, solidifying its position as a highlight on East Africa’s calendar.

The 2025 Stanbic Entebbe Open Golf Tournament, officially launched by Stanbic Bank Uganda, is set to be more than just a battle on the greens, promising a unique fusion of competitive sport, elite business networking, and vibrant celebration.
Scheduled for October 5th-9th, 2025, the tournament marks its third consecutive edition under Stanbic’s title sponsorship and is poised to become a landmark event in East Africa.
Held at the historic Entebbe Club, this year’s Open will break new ground by coinciding for the first time with the East African Business Summit cocktail.
This deliberate integration aims to foster an unprecedented synergy between the sporting arena and the business world, drawing regional business leaders to participate and engage.
Rita Apell, Chief Information Officer at Stanbic Bank, highlighted the expanded vision for the tournament. “This year’s tournament promises to be the most memorable yet, as it will, for the first time, coincide with the East African Business Summit cocktail, creating a unique synergy between sport and business, and attracting regional business leaders to take part in the tournament,” Apell stated.
The four-action-packed days will culminate in a joint closing dinner at the iconic 19th Hole on Uganda’s Independence Day, October 9th. Apell emphasized the strategic importance of this dual approach, adding, “The fusion of golf and business networking is a deliberate move to elevate the tournament’s value for players, sponsors, and guests alike.”
Competition will be fierce across three main categories: the Professional Open, the Gross Players Category, and the Subsidiary Category. In a significant boost for participants, Stanbic Bank has substantially increased the prize money.
Professionals will now vie for a share of UGX 50 million, up from UGX 40 million, while amateurs will compete for UGX 15 million, a notable increase from UGX 5 million in previous years.
Jacob Byamukama, Chairperson of Entebbe Golf Club, expressed gratitude for Stanbic Bank’s unwavering commitment to the sport. “As Entebbe Golf Club, we are honoured to once again host the Stanbic Entebbe Open, a tournament that continues to grow in both prestige and regional impact,” Byamukama said. He noted that the event serves as a crucial platform to showcase Ugandan golf excellence and promote regional unity and sporting camaraderie.
With over 300 players expected to participate, Byamukama anticipates a vibrant and competitive week. “This year’s tournament marks a new chapter, with increased prizes, wider participation and the exciting integration of the East African Business Summit. We’re proud to offer players and guests a world-class golfing experience right here in the heart of Uganda,” he concluded.
