Meera Ruparelia steps into leadership role at Victoria University
The university highlighted that her leadership will build on the foundation of “experiential education,” a model championed by her late brother, Rajiv Ruparelia, that emphasizes hands-on learning and real-world application.

Meera Ruparelia has officially taken on a key leadership role at Victoria University Kampala, marking a new chapter for one of Uganda’s fast-growing higher education institutions.
The university confirmed in a press statement dated April 16, 2026, that Ms. Ruparelia was sworn in as the Representative of the Directors to the University Council, a position that places her at the center of strategic decision-making and governance.
Her appointment comes in the wake of the death of her brother, Rajiv Ruparelia, a former director whose influence helped shape the university’s modern, industry-oriented approach to learning. University management described the transition as both a moment of reflection and renewal, noting that Ms. Ruparelia’s leadership signals continuity in vision and values.
In her inaugural address to the Council, Ms. Ruparelia underscored her commitment to positioning the institution at the forefront of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. She pledged to strengthen the link between academia and industry, with a focus on equipping students with practical, market-ready skills.

The university highlighted that her leadership will build on the foundation of “experiential education,” a model championed by her late brother, Rajiv Ruparelia, that emphasizes hands-on learning and real-world application.
Vice Chancellor Lawrence Muganga welcomed the appointment, describing it as both a responsibility and a vote of confidence in her ability to guide the institution forward.
“Her role at the Council reflects both trust and responsibility, and we are confident her leadership will help guide the university’s continued progress,” Dr. Muganga said.
Ms. Ruparelia’s elevation to the Council also reflects the growing involvement of the Ruparelia family in shaping Uganda’s private education sector, particularly through investments aimed at aligning learning with global trends and workforce demands.
Her appointment is expected to reinforce Victoria University’s ambition to remain a leader in innovative education, at a time when universities are under increasing pressure to adapt to rapid technological and economic change.
