The Luwunga Village Chairman, Muwonge Muhammed, and another suspect, Ssozi Abdalla, have been remanded to custody over alleged land-related crimes.
The two were arraigned before the Mukono Magistrates Court by the Anti-Corruption Coalition, together with the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), on several counts of land grabbing and other offences.
They were remanded until August 26, 2026, as investigations continue.
Prosecution alleges that between October and November 2025, the accused persons forcibly entered land located in Luwunga Village, Nama Sub-county, Mukono District. The disputed property, measuring approximately 311 acres in Block 167, Plot 81, Kyaggwe, is registered in the names of Kiwanuka Stella, administrator of the estate of the late Kiwanuka Joseph Musanze.
Ssozi is accused of falsely presenting himself as the owner of the land and, together with Muwonge, allegedly forged sale agreements that were issued to some occupants.
The two have been charged alongside other alleged land grabbers, including Kayongo Bonniface and Kiseka Hamuza, who were previously charged and remanded over related allegations.
The suspects are also accused of destroying property belonging to occupants of the land, including water tanks, pumping machines, houses and crops such as maize, cassava, sweet potatoes, sugar cane, tomatoes, banana plantations and eucalyptus trees.
The destroyed property is estimated to be worth about Shs1 billion.
