KCCA FC launches women’s team after acquiring a stake in Kampala Queens

The development was announced during KCCA FC Day on Tuesday, August 25, marking a new chapter for the club as it seeks to strengthen its football institution and contribute to the growth of women’s football in Uganda.

KCCA Football Club has officially entered Uganda’s women’s football scene after acquiring a 30% stake in Kampala Queens FC and rebranding the club as KCCA Women FC.

The development was announced during KCCA FC Day on Tuesday, August 25, marking a new chapter for the club as it seeks to strengthen its football institution and contribute to the growth of women’s football in Uganda.

Under the agreement, KCCA FC has acquired the 30% stake for an initial period of one year, with plans for a gradual increase in ownership over subsequent years.

Kampala Queens will now operate under the KCCA FC brand, adopting the club’s official colours and visual identity. However, the team will retain its popular nickname, “The Kampala Queens,” which has become closely associated with the club.

The arrangement means KCCA FC will now have official men’s and women’s teams operating under the same football brand.

The club said the partnership brings together the strength, history, and resources of both organisations, with the shared ambition of building a stronger football institution while creating greater opportunities for women players.

The new KCCA Women FC jersey for the 2026/27 season was also unveiled to supporters during the launch.

The event was attended by KCCA Women FC Chairman Patrick Ntege, Minister for Kampala Minsa Kabanda, KCCA Executive Director Sharifah Buzeki, Deputy Executive Director Benon Moses Kigenyi and KCCA FC Chairman Engineer Sserunjogi Andrew Mukiibi, alongside club board members and supporters.

The move gives KCCA FC an expanded presence in Ugandan football and places greater institutional backing behind the women’s game.

For Kampala Queens, the rebranding provides access to KCCA FC’s established brand, resources, and wider football network while allowing the club to preserve its identity and history through its nickname.

KCCA FC said the partnership is aimed at achieving greater success both on and off the pitch, with women’s football development forming a central part of the club’s expanded ambitions.
