Muhoozi hints at leaving army to dedicate life to Christ
Gen. Muhoozi also reflected on the demands of the CDF position, describing it as an office that requires a firm and courageous military leader.

Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba has hinted at stepping down from the military leadership in the coming months, saying he intends to dedicate his life to Christ [Jesus] after completing what he describes as his God-given tasks.
In a series of posts on X on Friday morning, Gen. Muhoozi said his time as CDF was approaching its end and that he would hand over the office to what he described as a qualified officer.
“My time as CDF is coming to an end. I have accomplished all the tasks my God gave me. In a few months I will handover this office to a qualified officer. I shall dedicate my life to Christ after that,” he said.
However, he added that he would remain around for at least another year, leaving some uncertainty about the timing of his possible departure from the military.
“Don’t worry I’m still around. At least for another year,” he said.
Gen. Muhoozi also reflected on the demands of the CDF position, describing it as an office that requires a firm and courageous military leader.
“The office of CDF requires the bravest lion in UPDF. Not a lamb. Not a diplomat. That is what I have tried to be in my time,” he said.
He further turned attention to the welfare of Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) personnel, saying improving soldiers’ accommodation remained a priority.
He proposed a monthly basic salary of Shs2 million for every UPDF private, saying the increase should take effect in the next financial year.
“My heroes have always been UPDF soldiers. We are struggling to improve their accommodation. But now as I prepare to leave the military, every UPDF private must be paid 2,000,000/- as his basic salary. This must start in the next financial year,” he said.
Gen. Muhoozi also claimed that President Yoweri Museveni had recently given him powers over the Ministry of Finance, adding that the ministry would provide the military with the funds it needs.
“Mzee, has recently given me powers over the Ministry of Finance. They will give UPDF all the funds we need,” he said.
The statements have raised questions about the timing of any leadership transition and the proposed changes to soldiers’ pay.
Gen. Muhoozi did not provide further details on the arrangements for handing over the CDF office or how the proposed salary increase would be funded.
