Ministry of Internal Affairs to replace sanitizers with Jik

The spokesperson of the Ministry of Internal affairs, Simon Peter Mundei, said the ministry receives over 6,000 to 10,000 people every day who come to get services from different departments.

Ministry of Internal Affairs is replacing hand washing sanitiser with Jik to curb the spread of the deadly Ebola virus which broke out in the country last week.

The spokesperson of the Ministry of Internal affairs, Simon Peter Mundei, said the ministry receives over 6,000 to 10,000 people every day who come to get services from different departments.

He said that a ministry that deals with many people aims to maintain the COVID-19 standard operating procedures.

“It’s only important that we call upon the public to fight this disease together. As a ministry, our health measures since COVID-19 outbreak are still in place. We shall maintain hand washing stations among other measures to be implemented,” he noted.

Mundei said the decision came after advice they got from health officials on how to implement measures to curb the spread of the Ebola virus in Uganda.

He said going forward, the ministry is to put up very many hand washing stations around its premises.

“If you smell that aroma of Jik while washing hands at our premises, please don’t complain because we were advised it’s one of the things that will curb the spread of the virus,” he added.

Mundei called upon the general public seeking services from the ministry headquarters to abide by the procedures put in place. He asked VIPs to stop rejecting hand washing.

Statistics from the health ministry Monday indicated that the number of confirmed and suspected Ebola infections had increased to 34 while deaths attributable to the outbreak stood at 21.
