Departing Kasaija: Integrity must remain the hallmark of the finance ministry
Musasizi paid tribute to Kasaija for his years of dedicated service, thanking him for providing a conducive working environment that enabled both the political and technical leadership to effectively discharge their responsibilities.
Former Finance Minister Matia Kasaija has called on leaders and staff at the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development (MoFPED) to uphold integrity and professionalism as they continue implementing Uganda’s economic transformation agenda.
Kasaija made the remarks during a farewell luncheon held at Kampala Serena Hotel to honour outgoing and incoming ministers at the Ministry of Finance following the recent Cabinet changes.
Addressing ministry staff and government officials, Kasaija urged them to safeguard the values that guided his 15-year tenure as State Minister and later Minister of Finance.
He emphasized that integrity should remain the cornerstone of public service, describing it as essential to maintaining public trust and ensuring effective management of the country’s finances.
The event was attended by the Minister of Finance, Henry Musasizi, ministers of state, senior ministry officials, and heads of agencies affiliated with the ministry.

He also recognised the contributions of former Ministers of State Evelyn Anite, who served in charge of Investment and Privatisation, and Haruna Kasolo, formerly State Minister for Microfinance and now Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, for their teamwork and commitment during their tenure at the ministry.
Musasizi further acknowledged the support of the current Ministers of State, Amos Lugoloobi (Planning), Aminah Mukalazi (Investment and Privatisation), and Ciccy Mulondo (General Duties), as well as the ministry’s technical team led by Permanent Secretary and Secretary to the Treasury, Dr. Ramathan Ggoobi.
The Finance Minister pledged to build on Kasaija’s legacy, saying he had learnt valuable lessons from his predecessor and would continue serving with integrity to meet the expectations of Ugandans and President Yoweri Museveni.
“I have learnt a lot from Hon. Kasaija, and I pledge to serve with integrity while building on the strong foundation he has laid,” Musasizi said.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Ggoobi thanked the outgoing ministers for their service and welcomed the new political leadership, assuring them of the technical team’s full support in advancing Uganda’s development agenda.
“Today we celebrate the spirit of service above self,” Ggoobi said, reaffirming the ministry’s commitment to working with the new leadership to transform Uganda into a prosperous economy.
The farewell luncheon brought together heads of institutions affiliated to the Ministry of Finance, including the Bank of Uganda, National Planning Authority, Uganda Bureau of Statistics, Private Sector Foundation Uganda, and government-owned financial institutions, among others.
