Electoral Commission reschedules repeat local council polls to a new date next month
The Commission has urged all stakeholders, candidates and voters to participate peacefully and adhere strictly to electoral laws and guidelines to ensure a credible and orderly completion of the process.

The Electoral Commission of Uganda has rescheduled repeat elections for Sub County, Town Council and Municipal Division Local Government Councils in electoral areas where voting was not conducted or concluded on February 4, 2026.
In a public notice issued to stakeholders, the Commission announced that the repeat polls, earlier slated for Thursday, February 26, 2026, will now be held on Thursday, March 12, 2026.
According to the Commission, the adjustment is intended to allow sufficient time for administrative and logistical preparations, and to accommodate all affected electoral areas, including those where fresh nominations were conducted following the death of some candidates.
The new polling date has been appointed in line with the Commission’s constitutional mandate to ensure the completion of electoral processes in all affected areas.
Positions to Be Filled
The repeat elections will cover the following unfilled positions at Sub County, Town Council and Municipal Division levels: Chairpersons, Directly Elected Councillors, Women Councillors, and Councillors representing Special Interest Groups — Youths, Older Persons and Persons with Disabilities (PWDs)
Polling will take place at all designated polling stations within the affected electoral areas nationwide, and where applicable, at the respective electoral college venues.
Voting will begin at 7:00 a.m. and close at 4:00 p.m. Immediately after the close of polling, vote counting will be conducted at the respective polling stations, followed by declaration of results in accordance with applicable electoral laws.
The Commission has urged all stakeholders, candidates and voters to participate peacefully and adhere strictly to electoral laws and guidelines to ensure a credible and orderly completion of the process.
