He further lauded the President’s vision, crediting it for fostering peace, driving development, and promoting wealth creation across the nation. Mzee Sserunga highlighted how local communities, including Kitagwenda, have tangibly benefited from various government development programs.
He passionately requested the people of Kitagwenda to overwhelmingly vote for President Museveni for another term in office, emphasizing that continued development hinged on his leadership.
President Museveni, visibly moved by the veteran leader’s unexpected and strong endorsement, commended Mzee Sserunga for his lifelong service to the nation. He acknowledged that Sserunga’s counsel and support have been invaluable to local communities.
“I thank God for enabling me to meet my veteran comrade Mzee Bruhan Sserunga, the father of Munyagwa, who understands the challenges of our fishing communities. I will engage him further,” President Museveni stated, acknowledging the unique context of the endorsement.
Beyond the personal exchange, President Museveni also took the opportunity to commend Kitagwenda farmers for their active engagement in the money economy, a principle he has championed since the 1960s as a cornerstone of Uganda’s economic transformation.
Mzee Sserunga’s public backing of President Museveni, particularly given his son’s candidacy for the presidency, sends a strong message of respect and confidence in the incumbent’s leadership, adding an intriguing dynamic to the electoral landscape.
