Fired Oledo leads Uganda Medical Association team to meet Museveni

President Yoweri Museveni has revealed that he has met a team from Uganda Medical Association (UMA) led by Dr Oledo Samuel Odongo.

The President said that he discussed the issues of the deployment of Doctors with the team from UMA.

Also discussed are the issues of recruitment of workers and improvements to the health sector.

We also talked about boosting the Health Workers’ SACCO, the President said in a tweet.

Last week, UMA at an extraordinary general assembly voted to suspend Dr Oledo’s membership in the association for the next four years.

They accused him of breaking the Association code by associating with the ruling political party, the National Resistance Movement.

Dr Edith Nakku, who has been the vice president, was elected to replace Dr Oledo as the president of the Association.

Not appeased, Dr Oledo petitioned the High Court in Kampala seeking to block plans of censuring him.

Dr Oledo together with a group of others donning clinical coats while attending the NRM Youth symposium in Kololo knelt before President Museveni and said the doctors of Uganda are asking him to stand for the presidency again.

This didn’t go well with many Ugandans who asked UMA to sack Dr Oledo – members of the association also expressed displeasure at what Dr Oledo did in Kololo.
