First Lady orders probe into Budo sodomy allegations

The school has responded to the homosexuality allegations revealing that they are investigating the teachers implicated. Budo said it had received the sodomy complaint from a student and erroneously suspended him.

The First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Museveni, has ordered an inquiry into allegations that teachers at King’s College Budo are facilitating homosexual acts among students in the prestigious and historical school.

To kick off the inquiry, a meeting called by Ketty Lamaro, the Permanent Secretary at the education ministry, sat yesterday, Wednesday 18th January 2023. Lamaro, in a letter calling for the meeting, said the inquiry was demanded by the First Lady, also the Minister of Education and Sports.

Invited to the meeting to discuss the allegations were: the Chief Administrative Officer of Wakiso district, the District Education Officer of Wakiso district, the Director of Education at the Church of Uganda, the Chairperson – Board of Governors of Kings College Budo, the Chairperson Parents Teachers Association of Kings College Budo and the Headteacher of Kings College Budo.

“The purpose of this letter, therefore, is to invite you for a meeting scheduled for Wednesday 18th January 2023, at 3:00p, in the Ministry Boardroom, 8th Floor Embassy House to discuss the matter,” Lamaro, acting on the orders of the First Lady, wrote.

She also invited the Director of Basic and Secondary Education and Commissioner of Government Secondary Education to attend the meeting.

The ministry hasn’t communicated the outcome of the meeting yet but it marked what looks like is going to be a lengthy and sensitive investigation.

The school has responded to the homosexuality allegations revealing that they are investigating the teachers implicated. Budo said it had received the sodomy complaint from a student and erroneously suspended him.

“We later conducted thorough investigations and established more facts. Accordingly, an apology was conveyed to the parent, with regrets,” Budo said in a press statement.

It said the teacher is facing a disciplinary process and thereafter appropriate action will be taken in line with public service standing orders.

“The college is undertaking infrastructural developments, including installing more CCTV cameras around all teachers’ quarters, dormitories and entire estate to minimize recurrence of such, related or unrelated actions,” the school said before apologizing to all Budonians and Ugandans for the unfortunate incident.

The allegation came to public dominance after a parent in a lengthy write-up revealed her sons sodomy ordeal at the school. The write-up went viral on social media platforms.
