FUBA appoints Goran Lojo as Silverbacks Head Coach
The appointment was announced on Tuesday, January 20, 2025, marking a new chapter for the national team as it prepares for upcoming continental and global engagements.
The Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations (FUBA) has appointed Goran Lojo as the new head coach of the Uganda National Men’s Basketball Team, the Silverbacks, in a move aimed at strengthening the country’s competitiveness on the international stage.
The appointment was announced on Tuesday, January 20, 2025, marking a new chapter for the national team as it prepares for upcoming continental and global engagements.
Lojo, an experienced international coach from Bosnia and Herzegovina, brings a strong pedigree in national team coaching, elite club basketball, and youth development across Europe.
He is widely respected for his tactical acumen and ability to build competitive teams within a short time.
His most notable achievement came with the Bosnia and Herzegovina Women’s National Team, which he led to a historic fifth-place finish at the FIBA Women’s EuroBasket, earning the country qualification to the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup for the first time.
At club level, Lojo has also enjoyed success in Germany’s top women’s basketball league, where he won a national championship.
Ugandan basketball fans may already be familiar with the coach, having previously worked with the Uganda National Women’s Basketball Team, the Gazelles, where he contributed to technical development and exposed local players and coaches to international standards.
FUBA officials say Lojo’s appointment reflects the federation’s broader strategy to raise the technical level of the Silverbacks, improve results at AfroBasket and other FIBA competitions, and position Uganda as a serious basketball nation in Africa.
With a blend of international experience and prior knowledge of the Ugandan basketball environment, Lojo is expected to play a key role in shaping the next phase of the Silverbacks’ growth and competitiveness.
The federation is expected to unveil his technical team and outline preparations for upcoming tournaments in the coming weeks.
