Ggoobi urges Muslim community to embrace wealth creation programmes

The Permanent Secretary to the Treasury emphasised that values instilled during Ramadan—such as discipline, honesty, sacrifice, compassion, and peace—are not only spiritual but also essential for economic growth and development.

Ramathan Ggoobi has urged the Muslim community in Uganda to take full advantage of government wealth creation programmes, noting that many of the country’s priority economic sectors align with halal principles.

Ggoobi made the remarks during Eid prayers at Old Kampala Mosque, where he congratulated the Muslim faithful upon completing the holy month of Ramadan. He prayed that Allah accepts their fasting, prayers, and sacrifices.

He revealed that government is currently investing over Shs 2.4 trillion in wealth creation initiatives in the national budget, in addition to more than Shs 10 trillion injected into similar programmes over the past decade.

“Government’s message is simple: These are not political funds. These are not sectarian funds. These are economic opportunity funds,” Ggoobi said. “I therefore encourage you to take full advantage of these programmes to start or expand wealth creation ventures and improve household incomes.”

The Permanent Secretary to the Treasury emphasised that values instilled during Ramadan—such as discipline, honesty, sacrifice, compassion, and peace—are not only spiritual but also essential for economic growth and development.

“No society develops without discipline and no human being prospers without honesty. No economy grows without integrity and sacrifice,” he said, adding that compassion builds trust within communities, while peace remains fundamental for progress.

Ggoobi reiterated that while government’s role is to create opportunities, it is the responsibility of citizens to identify and utilise them. He stressed that Uganda’s future will depend not on government spending alone, but on the productivity and enterprise of its people.
