Kampala Lord Mayor hails MK International School’s investment in student welfare

During his visit, the Lord Mayor encouraged parents across Kampala to consider enrolling their children at MK International School, citing its commitment to quality education, safety and holistic learner development.

Kampala’s newly elected Lord Mayor, Ronald Nsubuga Balimwezo, has praised MK International School in Busega for prioritising student welfare and investing in modern learning and boarding facilities, describing the institution as a model for education standards in the city.

Balimwezo made the remarks on Monday, February 10, 2026, while officiating at the opening of newly upgraded facilities at the school, which was founded in 2009. During his visit, he encouraged parents across Kampala to consider enrolling their children at MK International School, citing its commitment to quality education, safety, and holistic learner development.

“All schools in Kampala should aspire to have infrastructure like MK International School, supported by well-trained educators who deliver quality learning,” Balimwezo said.

The school recently completed a wide-ranging upgrade programme aimed at improving student accommodation, sanitation, supervision, and health standards. The improvements include renovated hostels, modernised sanitation systems, the deployment of trained matrons, enhanced security arrangements, and structured student support systems designed to strengthen pastoral care and overall student wellbeing.

Speaking at the event, MK International School Director Bamulopa Sulaiman said the reforms demonstrate the school’s commitment to creating a safe, modern, and supportive learning environment. He noted that the upgrades were guided by recommendations from education authorities and followed inspections to ensure compliance with both national and international education standards.

“We believe that academic excellence must go hand in hand with student welfare,” Sulaiman said, adding that the school remains focused on continuous improvement and responsiveness to the needs of learners and parents.

Parents who attended the event welcomed the changes, pointing to visible improvements in hygiene, supervision, and communication between the school and families. Several said the reforms have strengthened confidence in the school’s boarding facilities and management.

Education analysts say sustained investment in infrastructure and student welfare is increasingly critical for schools operating boarding sections, particularly at a time when parents are demanding higher standards of safety, accountability, and learner support.

Beyond infrastructure, MK International School has also expanded its academic and co-curricular offerings. New initiatives include digital skills training, leadership development programmes and a wider range of sports activities, aimed at producing well-rounded learners equipped for both national examinations and future careers.

Balimwezo’s visit and endorsement underscore the growing role of city leadership in promoting education quality and safeguarding learner welfare. For MK International School, the recognition further cements its standing as one of Kampala’s leading private institutions and sets a benchmark for education providers across the city.
