Kampala Parents School launches ICT mobile engineering lab to equip youth with digital skills

With admissions now open, Kampala Parents School is inviting prospective learners to take advantage of the new training opportunity at its campus.

Kampala Parents School has launched an ICT Mobile Engineering Lab aimed at equipping young people with practical skills in mobile phone repair, software engineering and artificial intelligence (AI), in a move to strengthen digital skills development and prepare learners for opportunities in the technology sector.

The initiative seeks to bridge the gap between classroom learning and practical technology skills by giving young people an opportunity to acquire hands-on competencies in some of the fastest-growing areas of the digital economy.

According to the school, the specialised facility will provide training in three key areas: mobile phone repair, software engineering and AI.

The mobile phone repair programme is expected to equip learners with practical skills in diagnosing, maintaining and repairing mobile devices, while the software engineering component will introduce them to the technical skills required to develop and maintain software applications.

The AI classes will expose learners to emerging technologies and their growing applications across different sectors of the economy.

The school describes the facility as the first of its kind in Uganda, positioning it as an innovative addition to the country’s technical and vocational education landscape.

Preparing Young People for the Digital Economy

The launch comes at a time when digital transformation is reshaping employment, business operations and service delivery, increasing demand for people with relevant technology skills.

Uganda, like many African countries, faces the challenge of ensuring that its education system produces graduates with practical competencies that respond to changing labour market demands.

While conventional education provides an important academic foundation, initiatives that integrate practical technology training can help learners acquire additional skills for employment, entrepreneurship and innovation.

Through the ICT Mobile Engineering Lab, Kampala Parents School seeks to expose young people to technical disciplines that could open pathways into the technology industry and self-employment.

For instance, mobile phone repair skills can enable learners to establish their own businesses or pursue employment in the growing electronics maintenance industry. Software engineering and AI, meanwhile, offer opportunities in application development, digital innovation and technology-based enterprises.

Expanding Practical Skills Education

The initiative also reflects the growing importance of introducing technology education at an early stage to help young people understand and participate in the digital economy.

By combining mobile engineering, software development and artificial intelligence training, the school is seeking to broaden the scope of learning beyond traditional academic subjects.

The school has adopted the message, “We Struggle for the Future,” emphasising its commitment to empowering Ugandan youth with practical skills.

With admissions now open, Kampala Parents School is inviting prospective learners to take advantage of the new training opportunity at its campus.

The introduction of the facility adds to the conversation about the future of education in Uganda, particularly the need to integrate technology, innovation and practical skills into learning programmes.

As artificial intelligence, software development and digital services continue to transform economies, equipping young people with relevant technical competencies will be increasingly important in preparing them not only to participate in the changing world of work but also to create opportunities within it.
