Locals celebrate land donation for Health Centre III in Iganga
Residents welcomed the initiative, saying it demonstrates their MP’s commitment to fulfilling promises made during the 2026 election campaigns.

Locals in Kidago Sub-county, Iganga District, eastern Uganda, are celebrating the donation of 2.12 acres of land to facilitate the development of a public health facility in the area.
The land donation is expected to address longstanding health challenges in the sub-county and pave the way for government investment in medical infrastructure.
Under Ministry of Health guidelines, communities and local leaders are required to provide adequate land before government funding can be released for the construction of public health facilities.
The initiative is being spearheaded by Kigulu North County Member of Parliament, Hon. Samuel Kungu, who has pledged to address health challenges affecting communities in the constituency.
Speaking to residents, Kungu said Kidago Sub-county has grappled with healthcare challenges for years, requiring urgent intervention.
“Kidago is one of the sub-counties in Iganga District that has a lot of challenges that require immediate action, and here I am,” Kungu said.
The 2.12-acre piece of land meets the essential space requirements for the establishment of a Health Centre III, according to the planned facility layout.
Under Uganda’s Ministry of Health operational framework, a fully functional Health Centre III is designed to serve a sub-county population of at least 10,000 people and requires appropriate infrastructure and supporting facilities.
The acquisition of the land is also expected to remove one of the major bottlenecks that often delay the upgrading and establishment of health facilities in rural communities.
With the land now secured, residents are hopeful that the government will proceed with the construction and eventual operationalisation of the facility.

“We are very happy to have a Member of Parliament who comes down to rescue his people who voted for him,” the residents said.
The community now expects the land acquisition to be followed by the construction of the health facility, which they say will reduce the distance residents travel to access healthcare services and improve access to essential medical care in Kidago and surrounding communities.
