Makerere University apologizes to student slapped by lecturer

A responsive Makerere University has issued a public notice saying the Director of Gender Mainstreaming have reached out to the affected student and shared their regret.

A video of a lecturer at Makerere University assaulting a female student has irked Ugandans who took to social media to call out Makerere University to take action.

A responsive Makerere University has issued a public notice saying the Director of Gender Mainstreaming has reached out to the affected student and shared their regret.

The University has promised to investigate the matter with the utmost sincerity.

“We have instituted processes that should lead us to take the necessary disciplinary action against the faculty involved in this unfortunate incident,” the University said.

The University affirmed that students should feel protected and guided by the academic staff they hold in high regard.

In a video, a male instruct is seen insulting a female student and ordered her to move out of the lecture room.

“The conduct of the faculty is unacceptable and portrays an abuse of authority entrusted to him to nurture and guide students as they pursue knowledge at our great University,” the University said.
