Museveni: Uganda has lost a dedicated soldier, leader and farmer in Gen. Moses Ali

Uganda is mourning the death of veteran statesman and senior government official Gen. Moses Ali, who passed away on Saturday at Nakasero Hospital.

President Yoweri Museveni announced the death in a statement, saying the former First Deputy Prime Minister died at 4:00 p.m. after decades of dedicated service to the country.

“It is with deep sorrow that I announce the death of our brother Gen. Moses Ali. He died today at Nakasero Hospital, at 1600 hours,” Museveni said.

The President described Gen. Ali as a distinguished soldier and political leader whose contribution to Uganda’s development spanned several decades.

“Gen. Moses Ali has provided service to his country for a long time, as a soldier and a political leader,” he said.

Beyond public service, Museveni praised the late Gen. Ali for championing modern agriculture in the West Nile sub-region, where he was widely regarded as a model farmer.

“In the West Nile region, he provided the good example of being a big modern farmer. We shall greatly miss his contribution,” the President added.

Museveni concluded his message by extending condolences to the family, friends, and the nation, praying for the repose of the late general’s soul.

“May the Almighty God rest his soul in eternal peace.”

Gen. Moses Ali was one of Uganda’s longest-serving political figures, holding several senior positions in government over the years.

His death marks the end of a long career in public service during which he played key roles in national leadership, security, and the socio-economic development of the West Nile region.

Government is expected to announce funeral and burial arrangements in due course.
