Naalya SS student confirmed dead after body exhumed in Kyampisi
Police launch murder investigation after DNA confirms the body recovered from Musaale Swamp is that of missing student Aneza Merisa

The Territorial Police in Kampala Metropolitan North have launched a full murder investigation following the confirmed death of Aneza Merisa, a student at Naalya SS, Lugazi Campus, who was reported missing earlier this month.
According to police, the case was first reported at Wandegeya Police Station on 6th November 2025 by the victim’s mother, Kamuganga Sarah, after Aneza failed to return home. Four days later, on 10th November, a decomposing body was discovered in Musaale Swamp, located in Namulaba Village, Kyampisi Subcounty, under the jurisdiction of Nagalama Police Station.
The body, which was dressed in a navy-blue student skirt labeled “Nanyonga VII,” was initially buried by mortuary staff in Kayunga due to its advanced state of decomposition. However, as investigations progressed, detectives secured a court order to exhume the remains for proper identification. DNA samples were submitted to the Forensics Headquarters in Naguru, and test results have now positively confirmed the body as that of the missing student.
“With this confirmation, we are now treating the case as a murder investigation,” police said, adding that detectives are pursuing leads to determine how Aneza was killed and how her body ended up in the swamp.
Police extended condolences to the family and assured the public of their commitment to bringing the perpetrators to justice. The body has since been handed over to relatives and was buried on Saturday.
