Officers awarded for contributing towards sports development in Police Force
The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Martin Okoth Ochola, has recognized 34 athletes from Uganda Police Force who have exhibited professionalism and dedication towards representing the force in different sports disciplines.
While officiating at the recognition ceremony of Police Sports personnel for their contribution towards sports development in the force, the IGP promoted some officers to various ranks while others were awarded commendations and plagues, especially those that have retired.
Speaking at the event held at police headquarters in Naguru, Ochola highlighted that many police officers have competed and won at various international levels.
“I, therefore, congratulate the gallant police sportsmen and women who participated and won various accolades. I take special recognition of ASP Joshua Cheptegei and SP Kiplangat Victor who won gold medals and Inspector Chemutai Peruth who scooped Bronze in the staple chase in the year 2022. You have definitely set a benchmark for the inspiring sports personnel of this country,” he said.
Ochola Implored the gallant sports officers to use their talents and popularity to inspire the youths by making them active and luring them from criminality. He called on them to assist other sportsmen and women to participate in future events.
The IGP promised to develop the sports department by facilitating the development of different facilities like providing land for the home of the department and improving the welfare of the sportsmen and women.
“And as I was telling the secretary of the Police Advisory Committee (PAC), we are going to have a detailed discussion in the next PAC meeting and make resolutions for facilitating the department.
We shall have special consideration for athletes during our mass recruitment. Therefore while recruiting, we shall take sports people and give them a special priority,” he noted.
