Entebbe, Uganda – Monday, August 24, 2026
Uganda Airlines’ executive leadership has briefed Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba on the national carrier’s strategic plans aimed at strengthening operations, expanding routes, and improving long-term commercial sustainability.
The delegation, led by Acting Chief Executive Officer Girma Wake, met Gen. Kainerugaba at the Special Forces Command Headquarters in Entebbe, where they presented measures being undertaken to address operational challenges and position the airline for growth.
The team included Chief Finance Officer Allan Joel Kyeyune, Acting Manager for Human Resource and Administration Anne Apio, and Acting Chief Commercial Officer Shakila Lamar Rahim
Management outlined plans to optimise the performance of the existing fleet, expand international routes from Entebbe to markets in Asia, Europe, the Middle East and key African hubs, while also introducing domestic services to meet growing internal travel needs.
The airline leadership said it is working to reduce operational costs by developing in-house aircraft maintenance and ground-handling capacity while investing in training Ugandan aviation professionals to strengthen local expertise.
The briefing comes as Uganda Airlines undergoes structural reforms aimed at improving corporate governance, enhancing daily operations, and building a more sustainable business model.
Gen. Kainerugaba commended the airline’s leadership for the progress made and pledged support towards the national carrier’s growth agenda. He said a strong airline is essential for promoting trade, tourism, regional integration, and Uganda’s wider economic development goals.
Meanwhile, Uganda Airlines management has faced scrutiny from Parliament’s Committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (COSASE) after officials failed to appear before the committee to respond to audit queries and findings from a recent inspection at Entebbe International Airport.
The committee, chaired by Hon. Muwada Nkunyingi later issued summons requiring the airline’s management to appear and provide explanations over the outstanding matters.
The airline’s growth strategy comes as it seeks to expand its network, strengthen its fleet capacity, and establish Entebbe as a competitive aviation hub connecting Uganda to regional and global markets.
With fleet development, operational reforms, human capital investment, and route expansion forming key pillars of its strategy, Uganda Airlines is positioning itself for a larger role in Uganda’s transport and economic development agenda.
