Uganda and EU look to the future after half a century of strong partnership
The First Lady reaffirmed Uganda’s dedication to deepening ties with the European Union, noting that the partnership has been instrumental in supporting the country’s long-term development vision.
The First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Museveni, has commended the enduring partnership between European Union and Uganda, as both sides prepare to mark 50 years of bilateral cooperation.
The First Lady made the remarks following a meeting with Jan Sadek and his delegation, noting that the long-standing relationship has significantly contributed to improving livelihoods through investments in skills development, employment, entrepreneurship, and social protection.
She expressed appreciation for the European Union’s continued support, highlighting its role in advancing Uganda’s development priorities, particularly in the education sector.
Museveni also welcomed the upcoming EU–Uganda Study Fair 2026, scheduled for June 4 at Makerere University, describing it as a timely initiative that will connect Ugandan students to international study and research opportunities.
“The Ministry of Education and Sports will expedite coding approval for six schools to support ongoing EU-funded infrastructure development,” she said, underscoring government commitment to strengthening education systems through strategic partnerships.

On behalf of the government and people of Uganda, she expressed gratitude for the EU’s sustained engagement over the years, adding that the milestone anniversary reflects a relationship built on mutual cooperation and shared goals.
The European Union established its delegation in Kampala in 1976, marking nearly five decades of collaboration with Uganda across various sectors including governance, education, and economic development.
