Uganda Electoral Commission sets date for Adjumani West MP by-election to replace deceased Gen Moses Ali
The Commission said the programme is intended to ensure a transparent, orderly and credible electoral process as the constituency prepares to elect a new representative to Parliament.
Uganda Electoral Commission (EC) has released the roadmap for the by-election of the Member of Parliament for Adjumani West Constituency and the Older Persons Female Councillor for Pachara Sub-county in Adjumani District, with polling for the parliamentary seat scheduled for September 17, 2026.
According to a press release issued by Electoral Commission Chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi, the electoral programme will commence with a stakeholders’ meeting and press briefing on August 3, 2026, ahead of the formal electoral activities.
The Commission said the National Voters’ Register at the parish level will be updated between August 5 and August 7, which will also serve as the deadline for voter registration and transfer of voting locations within Adjumani West Constituency.
The display of the voters’ register at polling stations will run from August 17 to August 26, allowing eligible voters to verify their details before polling day.
Candidates seeking to contest the parliamentary seat will be nominated at the Adjumani District headquarters on September 7 and 8, after which the Commission will inspect nomination papers and handle any complaints between September 8 and 14.
Official campaigns are scheduled to run from September 9 to September 15, with the Returning Officer expected to meet candidates on September 9 to harmonise campaign programmes and establish liaison committees aimed at ensuring peaceful campaigns.
As part of preparations for polling, the Commission will recruit polling officials between September 9 and 11, publish the names of successful officials from September 11 to 16, and conduct training for polling officials, supervisors, tally clerks and party agents between September 12 and 15.
Meanwhile, the election for the Older Persons Female Councillor representing Pachara Sub-county will be held on September 16, one day before the parliamentary by-election.
The Electoral Commission has called upon political parties, candidates, voters and other stakeholders in Adjumani West Constituency to actively participate in the electoral process and adhere to the guidelines governing the by-election.
