New Vision triumphs in 2024 Standard Chartered Cup, earns trip to Liverpool

New Vision's road to victory included a hard-fought semi-final match where Kafuluma once again proved his worth by scoring the decisive goal against last year's champions, Steel and Tube Industries. 

In a thrilling final showdown, New Vision emerged victorious in the 2024 Standard Chartered Cup, edging out MTN Uganda with a narrow 1-0 win.

The pivotal goal came from New Vision’s towering forward, Julius Kafuluma, securing not only the title but also a coveted trip to Anfield, Liverpool, UK.

The one-day event, held on Saturday, 7th September 2024, at the KCCA grounds in Lugogo, marked the 7th edition of the tournament.

This fast-paced, five-a-side futsal competition, consisting of 10-minute matches, saw 40 teams divided into eight pools.

Each pool had five teams, playing on a round-robin basis, with the top two teams advancing to the knockout stages.

On the other side, MTN Uganda had a nail-biting semi-final against Uganda Breweries LTD, which ended 0-0 in regular time and was decided by penalties, with MTN triumphing 3-2 to reach the final.

This year’s tournament saw a record-breaking 295 games, with MTN’s Emmanuel Nsubuga taking home the tournament’s top scorer award after netting 10 goals.

Meanwhile, New Vision’s Kafuluma was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP), while his teammate, Karim Kamoga, earned the Best Goalkeeper accolade.

The tournament featured four mini-pitches named after current Liverpool players Mohammed Salah, Alisson Becker, Virgil Van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold. New Vision’s reward for their triumph includes an all-expenses-paid trip to the UK, courtesy of Standard Chartered Bank.

The trip will feature a tour of the Liverpool Academy, a meeting with a Liverpool FC legend, a live Premier League match at Anfield, and visits to iconic sites such as Melwood, The Beatles Story, and the Liverpool Museum.

In addition to the grand prize, the top three teams received trophies and medals, while individual awards were given for the best player, best goalkeeper, highest scorer, and most disciplined team.
