Ugandan musician-turned-politician Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has released a new song titled Third Time Lucky to call for the release of veteran opposition leader Dr. Kizza Besigye and other political prisoners.
Announcing the song’s release on Wednesday, Bobi Wine, who also leads the National Unity Platform (NUP), stated on X: “Here is a song we recorded last week, in partnership with @BrenthurstF, to raise awareness about the continued detention of Dr. Kizza @kizzabesigye1 and other political prisoners!”
Besigye, a four-time Ugandan presidential candidate, was abducted from Kenya in November 2024 and has since been detained on treason charges.

About Third Time Lucky
The song was written by Robin Auld and Greg Mills and mixed by renowned Ugandan producer Paddyman. Recorded in Kampala in February 2025, it aligns with Bobi Wine’s ongoing advocacy for democracy, human rights, and political freedom in Uganda and beyond.
The track features voices calling to “Free Kizza” from global figures, including Nobel laureate Oleksandra Matviichuk, former Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, former Colombian President Andrés Pastrana, former Panamanian President Martin Torrijos, former Botswana President Ian Khama, and former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko. Other contributors include former Lesotho Prime Minister Moeketsi Majoro, the Archbishop of Cape Town Thabo Makgoba, as well as ministers and opposition leaders from Africa, Latin America, and Europe.
“When we unite with one voice, things happen. Break the chains of all political prisoners in Uganda, Africa, and the world,” Bobi Wine emphasized.
The release of Third Time Lucky is expected to increase international pressure on Ugandan authorities and amplify calls for the release of Besigye and other political detainees.
