Three police officers arrested over fatal shooting at Abbarci Industries in Gomba

The officers have been identified as PC Mujuni Nicholas, PC Welikhe Dan Alex, and Corporal Foste Bosco.

Police in the Katonga Region have intensified investigations into a fatal shooting incident that claimed the life of Katerega Musa, a machine operator at Abbarci Industries Ltd, during an inspection operation conducted earlier this week in Kanoni Town Council, Gomba District.

According to a statement issued by Katonga Regional Police spokesperson SP Lydia Tumushabe, the incident occurred on July 1, 2026, at approximately 4:00 p.m. in Kanoni Cell.

Preliminary police findings indicate that officials from the Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA), accompanied by armed security personnel and police officers, had visited the coffee processing facility to carry out an inspection exercise.

Police said the inspection team was reportedly led by an official identified as Mathias, who was known to the Acting Factory Manager and Accountant, Nalubega Zalika.

Investigators have since obtained video footage showing a scuffle involving several individuals moments before the fatal shooting occurred.

Authorities are now working to establish the exact circumstances that triggered the altercation and how it escalated into the shooting that led to Katerega Musa’s death.

As part of the ongoing investigations, three police officers attached to Butambala Police Station have been arrested to assist with inquiries.

The officers have been identified as PC Mujuni Nicholas, PC Welikhe Dan Alex, and Corporal Foste Bosco.

Police confirmed that the suspects remain in custody and are expected to be produced before court as investigations continue.

“We remain committed to conducting thorough, impartial, and professional investigations to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the incident and to ensure that all those found culpable are brought to justice,” SP Lydia Tumushabe said in the statement.

The incident has since attracted public attention in Gomba District, with residents and workers calling for a transparent investigation into the conduct of the security personnel involved in the operation.
