National Unity Platform  raises alarm over alleged abduction of Deputy President Muwanga Kivumbi

The National Unity Platform (NUP) has raised concerns over the whereabouts and safety of its Deputy President for Buganda Region, Hon. Muwanga Kivumbi, who it says has been missing since his alleged abduction on July 10.

In a statement, the party described Kivumbi as a distinguished leader and economist, and accused security agencies of targeting him following the January general elections.

NUP claims that Kivumbi’s home was attacked by security personnel on the night after the elections, resulting in the deaths of 10 people at his compound. The party further alleges that instead of investigating those responsible, authorities arrested Kivumbi and some of his campaign team members and charged them with terrorism.

The party said the group remained in detention until July 9, when the High Court granted them bail, but alleged that Kivumbi was only free for a few hours before he was intercepted at a police checkpoint and taken away by armed men in civilian clothing.

NUP alleges that Kivumbi was driven to an unknown location and has not been seen for 13 days, raising concerns about his safety and condition.

The party has called on government authorities to clarify his whereabouts, urging citizens and Uganda’s international partners to demand answers over the alleged disappearance.

Authorities have not yet issued a public response to the allegations.
