UBA bank bolsters board with banking, legal and governance expertise appointments
UBA Uganda said his experience will contribute to the bank's strategic oversight and support its efforts to sustain performance and expand its business.

United Bank for Africa (UBA) Uganda has strengthened its board with the appointment of three experienced professionals, bringing additional expertise in banking, corporate governance, law, human capital and strategic leadership to the financial institution.
The appointments of Godwin Orumwense Ize-Iyamu, Harriet Nabakooza Musoke and George Bamugemereire are expected to reinforce UBA Uganda’s governance and strategic oversight as the bank pursues sustainable growth and innovation in Uganda’s financial services sector.
Ize-Iyamu joins the board as a Non-Executive Director, bringing more than 40 years of experience spanning banking, corporate finance, accounting, oil and gas, strategic leadership and corporate governance.
According to UBA Uganda, his extensive experience within UBA Group and other financial institutions gives him a broad understanding of the African financial services landscape.
The bank said his experience will contribute to strategic oversight, sustainable performance and the institution’s continued growth.
Also joining the board is Harriet Nabakooza Musoke, who has been appointed an Independent Non-Executive Director.
Musoke brings more than 25 years of executive leadership experience in banking and financial services, with expertise in human capital management, corporate governance, leadership development, organisational transformation and culture change.
UBA Uganda said her executive and board experience will strengthen the bank’s governance and strategic direction as it seeks to build a more innovative and sustainable institution.
The third appointee, George Bamugemereire, has also joined the board as an Independent Non-Executive Director.
Bamugemereire brings more than 30 years of professional experience covering law, human resources, corporate governance, strategic leadership and organisational development.
His experience spans both public and private sector institutions across Africa, Europe and Latin America.
UBA Uganda said his legal and governance expertise would support the bank’s efforts to strengthen accountability, sound corporate governance and sustainable growth.
The appointments come at a time when banks across Uganda’s financial sector are placing increasing emphasis on corporate governance, risk management, digital innovation and sustainable business growth.
The addition of the three directors gives UBA Uganda a broader pool of expertise at board level, particularly in areas that are increasingly important to financial institutions operating in a rapidly changing economic and regulatory environment.
The new directors are expected to contribute to the bank’s strategic decision-making while providing independent oversight and professional perspectives on its operations and long-term growth.
UBA Uganda welcomed the three directors, expressing confidence that their combined experience will add value to the bank’s strategic journey and strengthen its capacity to deliver sustainable performance.
The appointments also underline the growing importance of experienced and diverse leadership in Uganda’s banking industry, where institutions are navigating technological change, evolving customer expectations, regulatory requirements and heightened competition.
For UBA Uganda, strengthening the board with professionals drawn from banking, law, corporate finance, human resources and governance is expected to provide additional capacity to guide the bank through these challenges while supporting its expansion in the Ugandan market.
