Tourism events emerging as key driver of Uganda’s economy – NTEOF

Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) Chief Executive Officer Juliana Kagwa commended NTEOF for its contribution to the tourism events sector and pledged support for the federation’s efforts to strengthen the industry.

The National Tourism Events Organizers Federation (NTEOF) has highlighted the growing contribution of tourism events to Uganda’s economy, saying they are creating opportunities for communities, attracting investment and enhancing the country’s competitiveness as a tourism destination.

Speaking to local and international media during the Rwenzori Marathon, NTEOF President Sebulime Peter, popularly known as Demo Riley, said tourism events should be viewed beyond entertainment and sporting activities because of their wider economic impact.

“Tourism events bring people together, create business opportunities for local communities, attract visitors and showcase Uganda to the world,” Demo Riley said.

He said events such as the Rwenzori Marathon provide platforms for destination marketing while supporting businesses in hospitality, transport, accommodation, food, retail and other related sectors.

The Rwenzori Marathon, which attracts participants from Uganda and abroad, has increasingly become an important feature on Uganda’s tourism events calendar, while showcasing the natural beauty and tourism potential of the Rwenzori region.

NTEOF also showcased its impact advert on the marathon’s main stage, highlighting the federation’s efforts to promote tourism events and demonstrate their broader economic and social contribution.

Uganda Tourism Board (UTB) Chief Executive Officer Juliana Kagwa commended NTEOF for its contribution to the tourism events sector and pledged support for the federation’s efforts to strengthen the industry.

NTEOF said it will continue working with UTB and other stakeholders to position Uganda as a leading Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) and tourism events destination in Africa.

The federation said strengthening the events sector will not only increase visitor numbers but also create opportunities for local communities, businesses and event organisers while contributing to Uganda’s broader tourism and economic development agenda.
