Busoga Kingdom postpones Kyabazinga’s 12th Coronation Anniversary to honour late Tooro King Oyo
The burial of the Tooro monarch is set to coincide with the initial date of Kyabazinga’s coronation anniversary celebrations, prompting the kingdom to reschedule the event.
Busoga Kingdom has postponed the 12th Coronation Anniversary celebrations of His Majesty Isebantu Kyabazinga William Wilberforce Gabula Nadiope IV from September 13 to September 19, 2026.
In a statement issued by the Office of the Katuukiro (Prime Minister) of Busoga Kingdom, Dr. Joseph Muvawala, the postponement was made to allow Ugandans and kingdom subjects to attend the burial of the fallen Omukama of Tooro, Rukirabasaija Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV
The burial of the Tooro monarch is set to coincide with the initial date of Kyabazinga’s coronation anniversary celebrations, prompting the kingdom to reschedule the event.
The celebrations will now take place on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at the Mayuge District Headquarters Grounds.
However, the Gabula Day commemoration scheduled for September 9 in Buyende District will proceed as planned. The event will also be used to honour and celebrate the life and legacy of the late Omukama Oyo.
Dr. Muvawala extended condolences to the people of Tooro Kingdom, saying the late monarch’s contribution to cultural leadership will be remembered.
“May the soul of our departed monarch rest in eternal peace,” the statement read.
The kingdom called on all subjects and the general public to continue embracing unity and solidarity as they prepare for the upcoming celebrations.
