Kitara FC has safely arrived in Cairo, Egypt, ahead of Sunday’s CAF Confederation Cup return-leg clash against Egyptian giants Al Ahly SC at Cairo International Stadium
The Royals travelled from Uganda on Saturday, hoping to overturn a 2-1 first-leg deficit following their defeat at Hoima Stadium. Gaddafi Wahab scored Kitara’s only goal in the first leg.
The team is scheduled to stay at Tolip Hotel and train under floodlights at Cairo International Stadium as preparations intensify for the decisive encounter.
Meanwhile, football analyst Ismael Kiyonga has questioned the quality and competitiveness of Ugandan clubs at the continental level, citing the financial strength, international experience, and technical resources available to Al Ahly
Kiyonga argued that Ugandan clubs face significant challenges in matching Africa’s top sides, pointing to differences in finances, coaching staff, and travel arrangements. He identified Vipers SC as one of the Ugandan clubs with the financial resources and facilities to compete more effectively at the continental level.
Kitara will need at least a 1-0 victory to level the aggregate score and force extra time, while a two-goal winning margin would secure qualification outright.
With 90 minutes separating them from a potential historic achievement, the Royals will be hoping to defy the odds and keep their continental campaign alive in Cairo.
