Kenya summons Uganda’s Ambassador to Kenya over Muhoozi Tweets

Muhoozi: We younger East Africans have decided that we will be one nation! No amount of threats will stop us from that goal!

There is no doubt that Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba’s Monday tweets’ threatening to overthrow the Kenyan government were disturbing to either side of the two governments.

And this morning, Kenya’s nominee for Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs, Dr Alfred Mutua, shared a ‘social cup of tea’ with Amb. Dr Hassan Galiwango, Uganda High Commissioner to Kenya.

In a brief tweet, Dr Mutua didn’t delve into the details of what the two leaders discussed. He, however, said they ‘discussed interesting matters.’

Dr Mutua added that ‘mambo iko Sawa’ which many people are speculating to be a veiled reference to the war drums sounded by Muhoozi when he tweeted that ‘it wouldn’t take us, my army and me, 2 weeks to capture Nairobi,’

Uganda’s government spokesperson Ofwono Opondo described the situation caused by the cheeky tweets by Muhoozi as an ’embarrassing or compromising situation’ that ‘should be handled very well,’

In an official disclaimer, the Uganda government, through the Foreign Affairs ministry, distanced itself from the Muhoozi tweets saying Uganda treasures the existing strong bilateral relations between the people and the Government of the Republic of Kenya.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs wishes to clarify that the Government of the Republic of Uganda does not conduct its Foreign Policy and other official business through social media nor does it depend on social media sources in dealing with other sovereign Governments,” Uganda said in an official statement.

Adding: “The Government of the Republic of Uganda, therefore, wishes to reiterate its cordial relationship with the Republic of Kenya and assure the people and the Government of the Republic of Kenya of our harmonious relationship that we value,”

But even when the government is trying to clean up the image he has soiled, Muhoozi is still sending out tweets discussing Uganda and Kenya. Today, Muhoozi is tweeting about dealing with the borderlines that separate the two countries saying the colonial master that drew these were wrong.

“To all compatriots, fellow countrymen and women, Uganda and Kenya, I say we must all conquer our fears. These colonial borders must fall!” he said in a tweet early Tuesday.

“As I told my father H.E. Kaguta Museveni, we younger East Africans have decided that we will be one nation! No amount of threats will stop us from that goal!” another tweet said.

“Union is a MUST! No honourable men can allow these artificial, colonial borders anymore. If we, our generation, has men then these borders must fall!” he added in another tweet.
