According to Police, two tires of a Sino Truck, registration number UBH 126J, got off and hit the pupils.
One pupil died on the spot whereas the other two died after reaching Mbale referral hospital.
The Elgon region police spokesperson ASP Taitika Rogers said the bodies of fallen pupils are in the city mortuary, as police investigations are being conducted.
“Two tires got off the Sino truck around Bus park spot in on Mbale Tororo Road, hitting to death one pupil of Maluku Primary School. The other two pupils from Nabuyonga primary were rushed to Mbale regional referral hospital where they breathed their last on reaching the casualty area,” he said.
Some of the eye witnesses at the scene explained the ordeal of the accident, saying it happened so fast.
Taitika, however, advised the motorists to keep discipline while on the road and always prioritize inspection of their vehicles before going on the road.
Meanwhile Kabuni Grace Irene, the head teacher of Nabuyonga primary school, explained with sadness how they got information concerning the passing on their pupils.
Kabuni urged parents to ensure they buy uniforms for their children for proper identification in case of any challenge.
