Alebtong leaders demand completion of delayed electricity connections

Moroto County Member of Parliament Leo Elem said several villages remain unconnected despite electricity poles being installed years ago. He warned that the delays are slowing business growth, limiting job creation, affecting water supply systems, and holding back overall development.

Leaders in Alebtong District have called on the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development to speed up the completion of delayed electricity connections, citing stalled projects that have left many communities without power.

Moroto County Member of Parliament Leo Elem said several villages remain unconnected despite electricity poles being installed years ago. He warned that the delays are slowing business growth, limiting job creation, affecting water supply systems, and holding back overall development.

Elem also raised concern that some unused electricity poles are being damaged by bushfires due to prolonged delays in completing the connections. He further criticized the Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) over frequent power outages in areas already connected, calling for urgent measures to improve reliability.

Business leaders in Alebtong, led by Bonny Akanya, said unstable electricity supply continues to hurt businesses across the district. They pointed to areas including Adwir Sub-county, Alololo Parish, and Ajuri Trading Centre, where prolonged outages have disrupted economic activities.

Ajuri County MP Fred Jalameso welcomed UEDCL’s restoration of power in Ajuri but urged the company to ensure a stable and consistent electricity supply throughout Alebtong District.
