Brig Gen Tukacungurwa sworn in as General Court Martial chairperson
In total, nine members of the GCM were sworn in during the ceremony, which was also attended by Attorney General Kiryowa Kiwanuka and other senior judicial officers.
Brigadier General Richard Tukacungurwa, recently appointed by President Yoweri Museveni as Chairperson of the General Court Martial (GCM), on Wednesday morning took oath of office alongside other members at a ceremony presided over by Principal Judge Jane Frances Abodo at the Supreme Court in Kampala.
Brig. Gen. Tukacungurwa replaces Brig. Gen. Freeman Mugabe, who has served three terms as Chairperson of the General Court Martial. In total, nine members of the GCM were sworn in during the ceremony, which was also attended by Attorney General Kiryowa Kiwanuka and other senior judicial officers.
The new GCM Chairperson will serve alongside Col. Wankandya Simon Tusah, Col. Asha Patra, Col. Kangwamu Fredrick, Col. Mugisha Raphael, Lt. Col. Igambi Mohammedie Nasser, and Maj. Amodoi Samuel Moses.
Other members appointed to the General Court Martial include Maj. Arihaihi Emmanuel, Maj. Nyombi Abubaker, and Maj. Chemtai Denis.
In related appointments, Lt. Col. Drani Epalu David was sworn in as Chairperson of the Fourth Division Court Martial, while Lt. Col. Mulyanti Yaqoub Hassan was appointed Chairperson of the Special Forces Group Court Martial.
The appointments are aimed at strengthening the administration of military justice within the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF).
