Bwindi Impenetrable National Park crowned third best adventure destination globally, securing Uganda’s place on world tourism map

Uganda has once again captured the world’s attention for its unparalleled natural beauty, with Bwindi Impenetrable National Park claiming the prestigious third position among the globe’s top adventure destinations at the Tourise Global Tourism Awards.

The ceremony, held in Riyadh, celebrated destinations that champion extraordinary landscapes, biodiversity, and sustainable tourism practices.

Bwindi, a jewel in Uganda’s crown, found itself in esteemed company, ranked just behind Ancash in Peru and the Galápagos Islands in Ecuador. This remarkable achievement places Uganda firmly among the world’s elite adventure tourism hotspots.

Professor James Kalema, Chairman of the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) Board of Trustees, who accepted the award on behalf of Uganda, expressed immense pride and highlighted the significance of the recognition.

“This accolade is a powerful endorsement of Uganda’s commitment to conservation-led tourism,” Professor Kalema stated. “Bwindi demonstrates how protecting nature can create meaningful adventure experiences while empowering communities and sustaining national development.”

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is globally celebrated for its dramatic, mist-shrouded hills and its incredibly dense rainforest. Its most significant claim to fame, however, is its role as a sanctuary for the critically endangered mountain gorilla.

The park is home to nearly half of the world’s remaining mountain gorilla population, offering an unparalleled and profoundly moving adventure experience through its renowned gorilla trekking excursions.

These treks attract thousands of discerning, high-value visitors annually, generating crucial revenue that directly fuels conservation efforts and supports local community development initiatives.
