Fiona Nakku hosts trade union leaders and calls forthe protection of worker’s ’ rights

Female Workers Member of Parliament Hon. Fiona Nakku has hosted senior trade union leaders at a workers’ conference held at Kampala’s Imperial Royale Hotel, with a call for stronger commitment to labour rights and workers’ welfare.
The conference brought together leaders from the National Organisation of Trade Unions (NOTU) and the Central Organisation of Free Trade Unions (COFTU), led by NOTU Chairman General Bro. Musa Okello and COFTU Chairman General Bro. John Oketcho.
Delivering the keynote address, Bishop Joshua Lwere urged workers and leaders to embrace moral leadership and integrity in workplaces, saying ethical values are essential in building productive and responsible institutions.
The Chief Guest of Honour, National Resistance Movement (NRM) Deputy Secretary General Hon. Rose Namayanja called for value-based leadership in serving Ugandans. She emphasised the need for national transformation that prioritises workers’ welfare, labour rights, and improved working conditions.
Workers’ representative Hon. Arinaitwe Rwakajara challenged leaders to put the interests of workers above personal expectations, saying effective leadership must focus on addressing challenges affecting employees.
Hon. Fiona Nakku said she remains committed to implementing her 2026–2031 election manifesto, with workers’ rights as one of the key priorities.
She pledged continued advocacy for better working conditions and policies that safeguard the interests of Uganda’s workforce.
The meeting was attended by various labour leaders and stakeholders who discussed ways of strengthening workers’ representation and promoting decent employment standards across the country.
