Health, energy and innovation to shine at Olwekobaano Expo and Conference in Kaliro

The expo, scheduled to take place from December 12th to 15th at the Green Belt and Kaliro Country Resort, promises to showcase the latest solar technologies, community health services, and knowledge-sharing opportunities.

The countdown to the 10th Olwekobaano Energy Expo 2025 has begun, with Busoga Yaiffe President Dr. Charles Mbalyohere and Eric Kihuluka, the Deputy Katukiro of Obwa Zibondo bwa Bulamogi, urging communities to seize the opportunities presented by the milestone event. The expo, scheduled to take place from December 12th to 15th at the Green Belt and Kaliro Country Resort, promises to showcase the latest solar technologies, community health services, and knowledge-sharing opportunities.

Addressing journalists at Kaliro Resort Hotel, Dr. Mbalyohere and Eric Kihuluka highlighted the expo’s expanded focus on clean energy solutions, strategic partnerships, and community empowerment. This year’s theme, “Taking affordable, reliable & clean energy to more people and places using strategic partnerships,” reflects the organizers’ commitment to promoting sustainable development and addressing energy poverty in the region.

The expo marks a decade of advancing renewable energy solutions, innovation, and the Busoga Yaiffe HEAT Strategy – Health, Education, Agriculture, and Trade. Dr. Mbalyohere emphasized the importance of access to modern, affordable energy in transforming livelihoods in Busoga, particularly in the face of climate change.

Exhibitors at the expo will display the latest solar and renewable technologies, including solar irrigation systems tailored for households, businesses, and farmers. “People coming to the expo will be able to see and buy some of the latest solar and other renewable technologies that will be exhibited,” Dr. Mbalyohere said. “When you have an irrigation system, you are able to farm throughout the year without waiting for the rains.”

Beyond energy innovations, the expo will feature a comprehensive health camp offering free medical services, including dental care, optical testing, and cancer screening. A two-day conference will bring together experts, policymakers, innovators, and development partners to discuss long-term solutions to energy poverty and community empowerment.

Deputy Katukiro Eric Kihuluka expressed the Bulamogi Chiefdom’s commitment to the expo’s mission and the empowerment of local communities. “We want to see every member of the chiefdom with money in their pocket,” he said. “To achieve this, the information people need is found at events like Olwekobaano. Knowledge is fire – you get it from a neighbour.”

The 10th Olwekobaano Energy Expo 2025 is expected to attract thousands of attendees, including students, farmers, business owners, innovators, civil society organizations, and government agencies. As the event marks a decade of promoting clean energy, innovation, and grassroots development, organizers say it has evolved into a regional model for sustainable solutions.

Kaliro officials have expressed their readiness to host the event and build on its legacy as one of the region’s biggest annual development events. With mounting interest in renewable energy and a growing appreciation for clean technology, the 2025 edition is poised to set new benchmarks in community health outreach, knowledge-sharing, and sustainable development.
