Kadaga refuses to return Karamoja iron sheets

The line minister for Karamoja affairs, Mary Gorreti Kitutu, is already in prison over the matter.

The first deputy prime minister and minister for east African affairs, Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga, said she will not return the Karamoja iron sheets, instead she will pay for them.

According to the woman member of parliament for Kamuli district, she requested for the iron sheets to rehabilitate public schools and health centers which had destroyed by hailstorms last year.

Kadaga was yesterday appearing before the presidential affairs committee of parliament, investigating the 25 ministers implicated in Karamoja iron sheets saga.

“I acknowledge that I requested for the 500 iron sheets to rehabilitate public schools and health centers that were destroyed by the hailstorms last year,” she said.

The committee that followed Kadaga at her office at Kingdom Kampala House was led by vice chairperson of the committee Naome Kabasharira.

The members wondered why the first deputy premier has not delivered the iron sheets to the beneficiaries two months after receiving them.

It’s two months since the news of 25 ministers stealing iron sheets meant for Karamoja came to light.

The line minister for Karamoja affairs, Mary Gorreti Kitutu, is already in prison. It awaits to be seen if more ministers will be arrested and jailed.
